Nokia Siemens Networks Ramps Up 4G R&D in Hangzhou, China

Nokia Siemens Networks is expanding its 1,000 strong R&D team in Hangzhou, China, to support the commercialization of next-generation TD-LTE (Time Division Long Term Evolution) technology in China, according to a press release by the company. It is noted that the expansion of Nokia Siemens Networks' Hangzhou R&D team - which has contributed to the company's development of technologies such as GSM/EDGE, WCDMA, LTE, I-HSPA, and WiMAX ?will focus on TD-LTE technology through 2009, preparing for the planned commercial rollout. Nokia Siemens Networks completed the first phase of TD-LTE trials in Germany in November 2008. The company expects to follow up its endeavor with advanced OTA (Over The Air) tests before launching field trials in a pre-commercial test network.
